1 Kings 5:15

I use my ESV Bible app every day.  Awhile back, I stopped to think about 1 Kings 5:15 that says, “15 Solomon also had 70,000 burden-bearers and 80,000 stonecutters in the hill country,” It was interesting that some were called, “burden-bearers” (NIV translation says, “carriers”).  “Burden-bearers” made me think about bearing each other’s burdens.  Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.”

Numbers 20:6-12, Numbers 27:18-23, Deuteronomy 34:1-4, 1 Chronicles 21:9-22:12

We’ve done a little Scripture study on 1 Chronicles, and also knew about God not letting Moses go to the Promised Land.  My son, Ethan, made a connection between the accounts of Moses and David.  He said that God allowed Joshua, not Moses to go to the Promised Land, and God allowed Solomon, not David to build Him a house.

1 Kings 6:7

As I was reading about King Solomon’s construction of God’s Temple, I came to 1 Kings 6:7b that said: “so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.” It was at that time that I heard hammering at a neighbor’s house.  It sounded like they were doing more roof work.  The next verse even mentioned the Temple’s roof.  This made me think of a sermon that mentioned God’s Temple.  It’s at this point I realized I needed to let others know what God did for my family.

On April 7, 2020, there was hail the size of golf balls in our city.  Much later, two men, saying that they were not storm chasers, came to our door, presented a business card (when I asked), and offered to give us an estimate for possible hail damage on our roof.  He warned us that if we didn’t report this hail to our insurance company, and another hail storm came, causing damage, we would get bit financially.  I declined the estimate, but took their advice to report the hail in our area.  Our insurance company gave us a list of roofing contractors, and asked if neighbors had roof damage.  There was roofing being done on two buildings at the time.  I called about half a dozen from the list, and someone came out.  They left an estimate of over $5,000!  My husband wondered why there was no mention of hail damage. I called the roofing company.  Soon after, we were surprised when we heard someone walking around on our roof a second time.  Then, we got a text from the company saying there was NO DAMAGE!  We went from an over $5,000 estimate to FREE!

Happily, there is NO HAMMER hammering on our roof!  Praise God!!  🙂

1 Kings 3

Dreams are a big deal in my family.  We share our dreams with each other almost every day.  According to http://www.verywellmind.com, “…researchers have found that people usually have several dreams each nighteach one typically lasting for between five to 20 minutes. During a typical lifetime, people spend an average of six years dreaming.”

In 1 Kings 3, we read that Solomon had an epic dream.  “In Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee….Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people? 10 And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing… I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.”

God gave Solomon great wisdom.  I pray that God gives all the dads out there beaucoup wisdom.  Happy Father’s Day!

Job 7:7, 7:11, 38:1-3, 42:3b, 1 Kings 3:7-12, Ecclesiastes 5:2

Have you ever thought or said angry words to God?  If so, it’s not wise.  You’ve probably read about Job.  At a low point in his life he said, “Remember, O God…my eyes will never see happiness again…I will not keep silent…I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.”

After Job had spoken much, God replied, “Who is this that darkens my counsel with words without knowledge?”  After God asked Job questions, Job was very humble and responded, “Surely I spoke of things I did not understand…too wonderful for me to know.”

It is thought that Solomon was the author of Ecclesiastes.  And it’s well known that God granted Solomon wisdom when he was a new king and focusing on God.  The author said, “…do not be hasty…to utter anything before God.”

If you’ve been angry with God in the past, don’t forget to ask for His forgiveness.  If you’re thinking about outpouring anger towards God, shift into reverse.  Don’t go there.  God knows best.

Proverbs 15:29, 25:26

Our daughter has learned more about similes in Reading this year.  In Proverbs, the author (Solomon wasn’t the only author, according to my NIV Bible) used quite a few similes but with much more meat than an elementary simile.  He wrote, “Like a muddied spring or a polluted well is a righteous man who gives way to the wicked.”

An earlier Proverb says that God is far away from wicked people.  If you’re starting to go down the path of the wicked, turn back to God before it’s too late.  But if you’re trying to be righteous, keep up the good work!
