Numbers 10:1-7, Matthew 24:30-31, 42, 1 Thessalonians 4:14-17

Our daughter Emily plays the trumpet, so whenever I read about trumpets in God’s Word, I’m extra attentive.  In Numbers, it says, “And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly,…”.

When I read of a trumpet sounding, that reminds me of Jesus’ return.  Recently, Emily wondered if Jesus’ Second Coming could be recorded on video.  In Matthew 24:42, Jesus said, “Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.” In Matthew 24:30-31, Jesus said, “And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great gloryAnd he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”  And if we flip to 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17, Paul said, “For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

So, if Jesus comes when we’re still here, will Emily be able to record the event on video?  Due to the unexpected nature of the upcoming event, and assuming we’d be star-struck with the great awesomeness of Jesus’ glory, I’m guessing not.  There’s a small chance she might be able to get a short video of the Christian dead rising, but even if she did, being a living Christian, she’d soon go to be with Jesus.  Her phone, probably still in video-mode, would be left behind, but surely the non-Christian people left behind would be too stunned to care.

Exodus 3, James 4:8

On a snowy day while out driving by a church, I noticed a tall, wide, red bush at a T-intersection.  It made me think of the burning bush that Moses encountered.

God spoke to Moses long ago through a burning bush.  God can communicate to us in many ways.  Today, He’s more likely to use His Word, devotionals, some Christian music, etc.  God is not limited in getting a message to us, so He can use whoever or whatever He wants until we get it.

Did you notice that when Moses saw the burning bush, God didn’t talk to him until he got closer?  If you’re not already, get close to God and He will get close to you.

Psalm 11:1

In the above verse, David writes about fleeing to a mountain.  That reminds me of something I read in, “The Small Woman” by Alan Burgess.

The book is about a woman named, Gladys Aylward, who became a missionary in China.  At one point in her life, she knew the Japanese were coming.  She opened her Bible randomly to find out what to do.  She read, “Flee ye, flee ye into the mountains!  Dwell deeply in the hidden places…”  She heeded that wise Biblical advice.
