Malachi 2:17, Hebrews 13:5

Luke 9:58

My NIV Bible sets the scene in an introduction before the book of Malachi.  It says, “The temple had been rebuilt, but times of prosperity had not come.”  In Malachi 2:17, Malachi said that the people’s words wearied God.  The Pulpit Commentary says about this verse, “The prophet makes his charge.  The faithless multitude have…worn out God’s patience by their murmuring and discontent.  Because their expectations of prosperity and glory were not at once fulfilled, they called in question God’s justice and holiness, and even the future judgment.”

Hebrews 13:5 tells us to be content, not loving money.  When Jesus was on Earth, he certainly didn’t live in luxury.  I think we can be content, don’t you?
