Matthew 27:50-54, 28:1-10

The Easter story reveals God’s power.   After Jesus died, God made an earthquake that split rocks.  When that happened, a centurion (Roman commander) and other guards were very frightened.  I’m guessing that it would take a lot to scare Roman guards.

Later, ladies both named Mary were going to Jesus’ tomb.  A mighty earthquake occurred as an angel moved the stone.  The ground wasn’t the only thing shaking.  Those guarding the tomb shook as well, but from great fear.

I wonder if any or all of the guards in the two, separate earthquakes were the same guards.  If so, maybe some of them put in their two week notices or got therapy for post traumatic stress disorder.  I’m kidding, but it’s interesting to think about the Roman guard angle.
