Isaiah 11:6-9

What two animals would you be shocked to see snuggling together?  In Isaiah, there are examples of predators and prey living peacefully together, like a wolf with a lamb, a leopard with a goat and a cow with a bear.  How can this be?

In “The Reformation Study Bible” R. C. Sproul explains, “Carnivorous animals, now remade with natures that protect what they formerly devoured, effectively portray the wonderful peace on earth in the new age ruled by the Messiah.  The vision corresponds to reconciling love in the church (Eph. 2:14-18) and will be consummated in the new heavens and new earth (Rev. 21:4, 24-27).”

“Unlikely Friendships” written by Jennifer Holland, tells the true story of a lioness and a young oryx.  She says, “It was almost biblical:  a lion and a baby antelope lying down together in peace.  Local people said it was a message from God.”

I think the rare relationship between the lioness and the oryx could have been God giving us a glimpse of the future when Jesus rules.  Let’s ponder that beautiful thought.
