1 Samuel 17:4-7, 2 Samuel 21:16

Earlier in David’s life, he downed the Philistine, Goliath, who had a spear point that weighed about 15 pounds.  Later in David’s life, he was too exhausted to take on another Philistine, Ishbi-Benob, who had a spearhead that weighed about 7.5 pounds, about 1/2 the weight of Goliath’s spearhead, but a very real threat.

To gain some perspective on the weight of the spearheads of the two Philistines, Ishbi-Benob’s spearhead would weigh about the same as a gallon of milk.  Goliath’s spearhead would weigh about the same as a pro bowler’s bowling ball.

As I said in last week’s post, I believe God used Abishai to kill Ishbi-Benob to protect an exhausted David.  Exhausted David won.  And as you know, God aided David in getting Goliath with a stone and a sling.  Little David won.  Don’t tell God the odds.
